On July 13-15, 40 Grassroots Ambassadors and field staff came together in Cincinnati, OH from the Center’s retirement security field partners Contact Center (OH), Peaslee Neighborhood Center’s Caregivers Circle Project (OH), Jane Addams Senior Caucus (IL), New Jersey Organizing Project, ONE Northside (IL), Ohio Organizing Collaborative, Virginia Organizing. We spent 3 days building deep relationships, adapting the new economic justice message into our campaign work and our personal stories, exploring the intersections of race, class, gender, economic justice and retirement security, developing new skills to carry our work forward, and planning our work ahead. We took the opportunity that we were in Cincinnati to visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, which was a very moving experience for folks. One of our grassroots ambassadors found her grandparents in the genealogy session! Grassroots ambassadors from all four states left pumped up for the upcoming birthday of Social Security and the August recess actions ahead.
