From June 25-28, 45 Grassroots Ambassadors and staff from four states came together for a retreat outside of Seattle, Wa. It was a powerful experience for those involved, and was notable for being the first CCC Grassroots Ambassadors training that included staff and leaders from Oregon (Family Forward) and Nevada (PLAN). They joined some more seasoned Grassroots Ambassadors from the Washington Community Action Network and from Montana for discussions and deep dives into policy, skills-building, campaign strategy, and self-care, among other things.
The group did a workshop on canvassing and then spread out across south King County to gather signatures for a Washington state ballot initiative which would increase the minimum wage to $13.50 and add paid sick leave at the state level.
Also noteworthy is that it was the first training during which child care was provided, and the energy brought by the 6 kids (age 2 – 14) in attendance was an added bonus. The gathering was truly multigenerational, with participants ranging from 17 to 85 years old.
